Become a thought leader

Now that you know how you want to be perceived.. (read the article here if you missed it!) What area do you want to be seen as the expert in?

It may seem like I am assuming you want to be the expert in your field, but don’t you? Don’t we all want to be the expert, the “go-to” business in your area?

In a competitive market – some more so than others, this can be difficult.

The more you expose your brand to your target market, the more people will recognise and start to identify with you.

There are some strategies we would like to share with you so that you can be seen as the expert in your field.

Share Free Content
The more free content you share the more exposure you get. This helps you to be seen as the expert in your field and before you know it, you are the “go to” person.

Your free content could be shared in a variety of ways, these are:
• Blog via your website
• Ebooks
• Emails
• Videos
• Downloadable guides

Share your story
People identify with people and connect with your story, not just the corporate branding. They want to know there is a real person behind that brand so share your story freely. Sharing small pieces of personal information can assist you in connecting with others.

Write a Book
Sure, it seems to be the thing to do but it is a great way to develop and grow your own expertise. If you don’t see yourself as a writer, then hire a ghostwriter. I know a few good ones and can put you in touch.

Share your thoughts
If your beliefs are different to what most are saying around a controversial media story, share it and challenge others to voice their true thoughts. Perhaps there are others thinking the same way but just don’t want to speak out. A controversial view can ignite a great conversation and see it shared amongst many.

Just be careful not to try too hard to be different here. Only if you are genuinely thinking differently to the status quo can you really connect with others. People can smell a fake from a mile away!

Speak out
Public speaking can be rather daunting for many. It is however a great way to showcase, to the right audience your level of expertise in your chosen field. If you do have a product ask if you can sell it afterwards.

Consistency
Don’t ever steer away from your core values and make sure that your branding and all marketing material is consistent. This only further establishes your brands beliefs and highlights you as a leader in your field.

Put these tips into practice and you will have people knocking on your door before too long.
